The visit to Brussels serves to bring the vast experience of this extraordinary city to Tbilisi, – Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of Strong Georgia-Lelo, said after meeting with the Mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close.
According to him, Philippe Close expressed full support for Irakli Kupradze’s candidacy for the post of mayor of Tbilisi.
“We had a very interesting meeting with the Mayor of Brussels. This visit serves to transfer the vast experience that this extraordinary city has to Tbilisi – it concerns the restoration of the historical center, it concerns attracting serious investments, it concerns the very large infrastructure of schools and hospitals that the Brussels City Hall manages, the social programs that have been accumulated in the city.
I think that when we talk about the reconstruction and construction of a European-style Tbilisi, it is precisely the experience of such a city that should be used. We agreed that the services of the Brussels City Hall will be in close contact with our party and the future Tbilisi municipality, and this is a very good start for Tbilisi to be one of the examples of what kind of European city we should build.
The Mayor of Brussels expressed direct support for Irakli Kupradze’s candidacy because we have quite close relations with the city hall and I think that now the focus is on this issue, since there are elections and this issue will now be on the agenda,” Khazaradze noted.
The opposition leader responded to the assessments of Irakli Kobakhidze and Kakha Kaladze regarding their visit, stating that they should tone down their rhetoric, as they are “direct followers of Putin” in Georgia.
“I want to say that this so-called government, be it Kobakhidze or the incumbent mayor of the capital, Kaladze, and their rhetoric, is already shameful. I think that there is no need to even give an answer, but now I must say that the task against the Georgian nation, the choice of the Georgian people, their freedom, their independence – the Russian task is being carried out by the “Russian Dream” in Georgia, their so-called criminal association, which launders 700 million dollars in Georgia and, practically, the whole of Georgia has seen that they are directly intertwined with the criminal world. The Georgian people will finally get over this. Let them change this rhetoric because they are direct followers of Putin’s Russia in Georgia. The Georgian people will not forgive this and will give a very worthy answer,” Khazaradze said.
Earlier today Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, speaking about the opposition, stated that “there are two weeks left before the elections, and some are in America, some in Brussels, some in Berlin, and when the Georgian Dream says that they carry foreign interests, they are surprised.” Also, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, in his comments related to the departure of the members of Lelo-Strong Georgia to Brussels, said that he does not know their goals, but “it is clear that they are not going for the good of Georgia.”
