**Georgia’s Foreign Minister Pushes for Peaceful Resolution to Conflict with Russia**
In a joint press conference following her meeting with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Bochorishvili emphasized the importance of resolving the country’s conflict with Russia through peaceful means. The two regions of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region remain under Russian occupation, violating Georgia’s territorial integrity.
This is a critical issue that has been ongoing for far too long. As Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Maka Bochorishvili is right to stress the need for peaceful resolution to this conflict. The fact that two regions of Georgia are still under foreign occupation is a stark reminder of the challenges facing the country. The resumption of the Gali Mechanism, which was suspended in 2009, is seen as a necessary step towards resolving this issue.
**A Commitment to Peace and Stability**
Bochorishvili also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, particularly within the OSCE framework. Georgia values its participation in the OSCE and sees it as an essential platform for promoting European security and cooperation. The country’s commitment to peace and stability is evident in its desire to promote peaceful resolution to conflicts, not just with Russia but also in the South Caucasus region.
The recent peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a welcome development, and Georgia is eager to contribute to the consolidation of peace and cooperation in the region. The trilateral meeting between the foreign ministries of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in Tbilisi last week marked an important step towards this goal.
**A Call for International Support**
Bochorishvili also emphasized the need for international support in resolving conflicts through peaceful means. She highlighted the importance of ensuring access to human rights and security mechanisms in occupied territories, which would be a significant step forward in addressing the humanitarian consequences of occupation.
The OSCE has an important role to play in promoting peace and stability in the region. As Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Maka Bochorishvili is right to emphasize the need for continued discussions within the OSCE framework to resolve this conflict peacefully.
