**Mzia Amaghlobeli’s Lawyer Says Prosecution Has No Case**
Journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli is innocent, according to her lawyer Maia Mtsariashvili. Mtsariashvili says the prosecution has no evidence against Amaghlobeli.
The trial was held without any video evidence from the prosecution. The judge had previously rejected 19 video recordings and multiple documentary pieces of evidence presented by the defense team. This was done to avoid hearing witnesses who would testify about police violence, Mtsariashvili claimed.
**Judge Barred Defense Evidence**
At a previous court hearing, the judge barred all defense evidence from being presented. The judge also ruled that 18 witnesses should not be questioned. The prosecution only managed to get a short clip from ‘Adjara TV’ accepted as evidence, but they did not present any other recordings.
Mtsariashvili said that anyone with common sense and reasoning would know Amaghlobeli is innocent without needing extensive proof. She pointed out that the prosecution was afraid to present more video evidence because it would have shown police violence.
**Background on the Case**
Mzia Amaghlobeli, founder of media outlets “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti,” is being charged with assault on a police officer under Article 353 of the Criminal Code. If convicted, she could face 4-7 years in prison.
