**France Will Not Send Soldiers to Ukraine Frontline**

French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview on February 18 that France will not send its soldiers to the frontline in Ukraine.

Macron invited European leaders to a meeting in Paris on February 17 after US officials said Europe would not participate in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. A second meeting is planned for February 19 to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine.

**No French Troops, But Possible Experts or Limited Military Help**

Macron said France will not send combat ground troops to the front. However, he suggested that experts or a limited number of troops could be sent beyond the frontline to show support and help Ukraine defend itself.

France is working with Britain on this possibility. The UK’s Prime Minister has also signaled that British troops might be sent as part of a European peacekeeping force.

**Support for Ukraine’s NATO Membership**

Macron said supporting Ukraine’s membership in NATO is one way France can help the country fight against Russia’s aggression. Ukraine’s automatic membership in NATO could happen if there is a ceasefire violation by Russia.

**US and UK Views on Peacekeepers**

The US President has said he is not opposed to European peacekeepers monitoring a ceasefire in Ukraine. The UK Prime Minister has also expressed willingness to send British troops as part of a European-led peacekeeping force.
