“I read Mikheil Kavelashvili’s letter in full and understood nothing. I couldn’t grasp what the author intended to say because, on one hand, it tells Trump, ‘You are the strongest, you’ve brought peace to half the world, you’re a person capable of great things, but Marco Rubio and the State Department are the ‘deep state.’ In other words, you’re great and fighting the ‘deep state,’ but the ‘deep state’ is supposedly right beside you. You don’t know, but I, Mikheil Kavelashvili, know and am telling you. You want to bring peace to the world, but at the same time, you’ve been organizing four revolutions in Georgia.’ Kavelashvili, Kobakhidze, and others have supposedly outdone this superpower and its ‘deep state’ conspiracies, saving the country from some plot. They’re saying, ‘You’re great, but you have no idea who’s working beside you. We know, and we’ve written you this letter to help you figure it out and act correctly. We want your support, but know that we’re watching you closely.’ I think Kavelashvili himself wrote that letter. In my opinion, it’s Kavelashvili’s work. That’s my comment,” said Levan Tsutskiridze, leader of Freedom Square, during an appearance on Palitranius’s program Day’s Newsroom, responding to Mikheil Kavelashvili’s open letter to U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Tsutskiridze, the letter essentially tells Trump, “We want your support, but know that we’ll be watching you closely.”
Additionally, Tsutskiridze discussed the risks of visa liberalization suspension during the program, stating that Georgian Dream uses “our rights as a bargaining chip in their fight for power.”
He further noted that Bidzina Ivanishvili needs Georgia to be isolated because “it’s much easier to govern an isolated country.”
“I had no expectation that Georgian Dream would do anything. Their goal is to indefinitely maintain power, always be in government, and have constant access to corruption. Naturally, everything else—elections, democracy, human rights, freedoms, independent media, Europe, and so on—stands in the way of this. That’s why they didn’t fulfill the recommendations. The right to freely move across any EU country belongs to all of us, but Georgian Dream is taking it away. They’re using our rights as a bargaining chip in their fight for power,” Tsutskiridze stated.
The opposition politician also pointed out that Georgian Dream is “very afraid of the people’s anger” and clearly sees that “they’re doing something that will cost them dearly.”
“They are scared, and this is confirmed by the campaign against the September 13 rally, claiming we’re planning something, and so on. My goal isn’t to anger citizens; it’s Georgian Dream’s actions that anger them. Yes, we should be justly angry. Shouldn’t we be angry that one man and a few of his cronies have decided to take our country and everything we’ve achieved?! Many of us remember how proud we were when Zurab Zhvania stood at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and said, ‘I am Georgian, and therefore I am European.’ We were all rightfully proud of that, and now this small group is taking everything from us and dragging this country into a quagmire,” Tsutskiridze stated.
In response to a question about the freezing of NGO bank accounts, he said that Georgian Dream sees enemies in everyone and wants to “establish a zoo-like peace in the country.”
“They listen to their primal fears. They see enemies in everyone. That’s Georgian Dream’s biggest problem. In my opinion, it’s their fatal problem. They see anyone who criticizes them, opposes them, or doesn’t publicly praise their ‘successful governance’ as an enemy. They want to be the sole and only center of power in this country, with everyone blindly obeying them. They want to establish a zoo-like peace in the country. That’s their goal,” Tsutskiridze stated.
