“When we are in complete alignment with the U.S. administration on all issues, when we have been and continue to be supporters of Mr. Trump, the silence of the U.S. administration regarding Georgia is surprising to us. We expected at least minimal gratitude, but so far, there is absolute silence, which raises logical questions within our team,” stated Levan Machavariani, a deputy from the “Georgian Dream” party, today.
According to Machavariani, the statement by former USAID head Samantha Power, confirming that the organization spent tens of millions of dollars in Moldova, is “yet another acknowledgment of what ‘Georgian Dream’ has been saying for nearly four years and what the Trump administration has openly discussed.”
Machavariani further noted that, “against the backdrop of the Georgian government consistently addressing this issue for years and being in complete alignment with Donald Trump’s political vision on all matters, the silence of the U.S. administration toward Georgia is surprising.”
“Power confirmed that their funded NGOs were, on one hand, involved in supporting governments in various countries that were acceptable to them – governments that serve the ‘deep state’ – and, on the other hand, were engaged in removing governments that do not serve the interests of the ‘deep state.’ We can cite Georgia as an example in this case. Here, we are talking about governments that are national, prioritize the country’s sovereignty, and act in the national interest.
In this context, the investigation launched by the Prosecutor’s Office regarding wealthy NGOs – specifically the seven NGOs whose accounts have been frozen – is highly relevant.
The only thing that surprises us, against this backdrop, is the silence of the U.S. administration toward Georgia, especially when we are in complete alignment on all issues and have been and remain supporters of Mr. Trump in this and other directions. Against this backdrop, we expected at least minimal gratitude, but unfortunately, so far, there is absolute silence, which logically raises questions within our team,” Machavariani stated.
