**Journalist’s Detention: Lawyer Speaks Out on Unfair Trial**

Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of online outlets “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti,” has been in detention for some time. Her lawyer, Maia Mtsariashvili, spoke out after a recent court hearing, expressing her frustration with the proceedings.

According to Mtsariashvili, Mzia had vision problems even before her detention began. Unfortunately, these issues have worsened since then. The lawyer stated that medical evaluations regarding Mzia’s vision are included in the case materials, but the judge did not take this into consideration.

**Medical Report Shows Worsening Vision**

Mtsariashvili revealed that the latest medical report shows Mzia has only about 10% vision in one eye and a mere 0.04% in the other. This is a significant deterioration from her previous condition, when she had around 30% vision. The lawyer explained that with glasses, there’s a chance to improve vision in one eye to 40%, but the other eye’s condition is very severe.

**Court Proceedings: A Formality?**

Mtsariashvili was critical of the court’s handling of Mzia’s case. She stated that the judge again left Mzia “in captivity” today, leaving many to question the fairness of the trial. The lawyer pointed out that during today’s session, the judge said pre-trial detention is typically used for this category of case – a claim she called “a major legal mistake.”

**A Message from the Court: Mockery?**

Mtsariashvili expressed her disappointment with the court’s decision to keep Mzia in custody. She stated that the judge’s words were an insult, as it would be more honest if they simply said the proceedings are a formality. The lawyer called this “legally a mockery” and added that Mzia herself had said it best: “I’m not asking for mercy – act according to the law and your conscience.” Unfortunately, in their justice system, one cannot rely on conscience alone.
