It is a very dangerous situation – the main problem comes from the opposition itself, they failed to unite at a critical moment, I hope at some point they will manage it. Russia and the Kremlin, of course, want Georgians here to clash with each other, – said the head of the “Liberal Academy,” Lasha Tughushi, on PalitraNews’ program “Resume.”
According to Tughushi, the main problem lies with the opposition, since they failed to achieve unity at a critical moment.
“It’s a bit of a caricature of totalitarianism. Russia and the Kremlin, of course, want Georgians here to clash with each other. Even now, the situation is highly polarized, divided; we look at each other very negatively yet again. But we have developed some kind of immunity, because if the same attitude had existed in the 1990s, I am convinced that a far worse scenario would have unfolded than what actually did. People simply realized that certain things must be endured, but this too has its limits. It is a very dangerous situation.
On the one hand, it is clear that things cannot continue this way. The main problem comes from the opposition itself. Their internal problem is that they failed to unite at the most critical moment to form a common position. Even today, look at how they speak about each other. In my view – and history proves this as well – this is a strategic mistake by these parties. I hope that at some point they will manage to unite, because they simply no longer have the right not to unite, given the national interest,” – said Lasha Tughushi.
