**Former Adjara Chairman Tornike Rizhvadze Transferred to Turkey for Treatment**

Tornike Rizhvadze, the former Chairman of the Government of Adjara, has been transferred to a clinic in Turkey for treatment after being shot in the chest. According to Dr. Lali Turdzaladze, Clinical Director of the First University Clinic, the transfer was carried out at the request of his family.

In an interview with ‘InterpressNews’, Dr. Turdzaladze explained that Rizhvadze’s condition had stabilized enough for him to be transferred by air to Turkey. “His condition allowed for it; he was stable,” she said. The decision to transfer him was made by his family, who initially were unsure but later decided to proceed.

Dr. Turdzaladze emphasized that Rizhvadze’s condition had improved significantly before the transfer. “He was responsive, with improved parameters – however, we kept him on mechanical ventilation because it was not safe to remove him from it during air travel,” she said.

The clinical director also confirmed that Rizhvadze was transferred entirely at the family’s request. She noted that neither Levan nor the Prime Minister had mentioned this earlier because the family had not yet made a decision.

**Background: Shooting and Detention**

For context, on July 7, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that Tornike Rizhvadze was admitted to “GeoHospitals” in Sagarejo with a gunshot wound to the chest. According to the ministry, he received emergency medical care. Later, Rizhvadze was transferred from Sagarejo to the First University Clinic.

In connection with the case, Aleksi Akhvlediani was detained and charged with the negligent storage of a firearm. The court set his bail at 30,000 GEL and released him from the courtroom.

**Turkey Accepts Rizhvadze in Stable Condition**

The transfer to Turkey was carried out despite concerns about transporting a critically ill patient by air. However, Dr. Turdzaladze reassured that Rizhvadze’s condition had stabilized enough for the transfer. “He was transferred with absolutely stable, even significantly improved, parameters,” she said.
