**Ukrainian Court Arrests Top Military Officials**

A court in Kyiv has arrested three top military officials accused of leading an unsuccessful defense against Russian forces in Kharkiv Oblast last year. The officials, Generals Yurii Halushkin and Artur Horbenko, and Colonel Illia Lapin, were detained on January 20 by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU).

**Failed Defense**

The three officers are accused of violating military regulations and not using all resources at their disposal to repel the Russian offensive. The SBU said that their failure led to the seizure of part of the territory in eastern Ukraine.

Halushkin commanded the Kharkiv Operational-Tactical Group, Horbenko led the 125th Territorial Defense Brigade, and Lapin commanded the brigade’s 415th Battalion. They face up to 10 years in prison for negligence in military service and unauthorized withdrawal from the battlefield.

**Trial Underway**

The trial of the three officials has begun, with their lawyers protesting the charges. The case comes against the backdrop of several scandals connected to poor command and organization in different brigades.

**Russian Attacks Continue**

Meanwhile, Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least two people and injured at least 29 over the past day, regional authorities reported on January 22.
