**Kosovo Assembly Fails Again to Elect Speaker**
The Kosovo Assembly’s constitutive session has failed for the seventh time to elect a speaker. Albulena Haxhiu, the candidate from the Self-Determination Movement, did not receive the necessary 61 votes to secure the position.
In a similar outcome to previous sessions, 57 deputies voted in favor of Haxhiu, while 41 voted against her. Three deputies abstained from voting. This lack of consensus has stalled the election process once again.
**Opposition Remains Divided**
Representatives of the former opposition have reiterated their refusal to support Haxhiu’s candidacy. However, they have expressed a willingness to back another candidate from the Self-Determination Movement. The Democratic League of Kosovo remains resolute in its stance, stating that it will never vote for a candidate from the Self-Determination Movement.
**Next Attempt Scheduled**
The presiding member of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, has announced that the eighth continuation of the session will take place on Tuesday, April 29th. Despite the repeated failures to elect a speaker, the session continues, with no clear resolution in sight.
This ongoing impasse raises concerns about the effectiveness and efficiency of Kosovo’s legislative body. The prolonged inability to elect a speaker highlights the deep-seated divisions within the Assembly and the need for compromise and cooperation among its members.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether a new candidate will emerge or if the deadlock will continue indefinitely. One thing is certain: the people of Kosovo deserve a functioning and effective government, and this ongoing saga only serves to hinder progress.
