**Georgian PM Accuses EU Ambassador of Inciting Violence**

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, has accused the country’s EU ambassador, Paweł Herczyński, of being “complicit in violence” and “continuing to incite violence”.

Kobakhidze made these comments after Herczyński said that the EU is working on sanctioning those responsible for human rights violations, intimidation, and violence against peaceful protesters in Georgia.

**The Background**

The EU ambassador’s statement came a day after Kobakhidze had accused him of trying to bring the opposition United National Movement (UNM) to power. Herczyński had said that the EU cannot accept violence, impunity, and intimidation that has been going on for nearly three months now.

**Kobakhidze Responds**

In response to Herczyński’s statement, Kobakhidze accused him of being involved in an election campaign in Georgia “in favor of the collective United National Movement” and “against the Georgian Dream”. He also said that the EU ambassador had lost in the elections and had never condemned violent rallies in Georgia.

**EU Support**

The EU has come to the defense of its ambassador, with Anita Hipper, the EU spokesperson for foreign and security policy, expressing full support for Herczyński. She said that the EU does not see any positive news coming from Georgia and that the unfounded accusations against the bloc’s ambassador are proof of this.
