Kakha Kaladze has served two terms as the Mayor of Tbilisi. His administration is associated with numerous collapses and tragedies. Any responsible person in his position would have resigned, yet he is offering himself to Tbilisi residents for a third term, said Ketevan Turazashvili, one of the leaders of the “Lelo-Strong Georgia” party, during a conversation with journalists.
She also spoke about the rehabilitation of Vake Park and the tragedy that claimed the life of a 13-year-old teenager.
“Tbilisi City Hall has still not completed the rehabilitation of Vake Park. 30 million GEL has already been spent, and an additional 31 million GEL is planned to be spent. The rehabilitation was supposed to be completed in 2021. The estimated cost will exceed 60 million GEL. We remember how Kakha Kaladze ceremoniously opened Vake Park in 2012, and we also remember the horrific tragedy on October 13, 2022, when a 13-year-old child died. The cause of death was an electric shock because the electrical wiring in the fountain was not done properly. Among those detained in connection with this incident was Giga Gigashvili, the former head of the Tbilisi City Hall’s Environmental Protection Service. He was soon released from detention and placed under house arrest. After his release, he purchased real estate worth half a million, without taking out a loan. Additionally, he acquired a 143-square-meter property in Bagebi at a price significantly below market value. Most importantly, he founded a company that acted as an intermediary between the City Hall and other companies, working on commissions, construction permits, and expediting permits. He used his influence and contacts. This single example clearly demonstrates the scale of corruption in Tbilisi City Hall.
