Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze commented on the charges filed against Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the Political Council of the United National Movement, stating that overthrowing the government, staging a coup, or inciting violence such as burning or hanging someone is punishable by law. He emphasized that those who believe such actions will go without response are mistaken, as authorities have substantial information, concrete evidence, and facts, and no such crime will go unpunished.
According to Kaladze, the charges against Khabeishvili are not politically motivated, as he directly offered a bribe to police officers to commit a crime.
“We have heard such statements from Levan Khabeishvili multiple times, and it’s clear they were made deliberately to normalize such rhetoric in society. Overthrow, coup, burning or hanging someone – these are, of course, punishable by law. If anyone thinks such actions will go unpunished, they are gravely mistaken. We have a lot of information, specific evidence, and facts. Let’s wait for everything to unfold; no such crime will go without a response. Everyone – agents inside the country and those abroad who tirelessly attempt to take steps against Georgia and its people, to stage a coup, to provoke confrontation among the people – will fail. Anyone who tries to violate the Constitution and the law by committing illegal acts will be punished, and there will be a response from the relevant authorities.
The idea of this being a political statement is irrelevant. He directly offered a bribe, which is a punishable act, both for the person offering and accepting it. The law defines this. He made a call and offered USD 200,000 to police officers or teams who would commit a crime and act against the law.
