I urge everyone not to sacrifice themselves for prison, stated Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze to journalists.
Commenting on the rally announced for October 4 on Rustaveli Avenue, Kakha Kaladze said that if there is any form of law violation or transgression, it will be met with an appropriate response.
“As the mayor of the capital and an ordinary citizen of this country, I certainly won’t be pleased, and it doesn’t please me, when people commit crimes and then have to go to prison. Everyone can express their opinion. If there is a transgression, violence, or specific steps to fulfill calls to action, of course, there will be a response,” Kaladze stated.
In response to a journalist’s question about whether he was referring to picketing buildings, Kaladze replied: “Anyone who violates the law, regardless of the form or manner, will face a response.”
Furthermore, according to Kaladze, the freedom of assembly and expression is protected in the country.
“Any individual or group can express their opinion on various issues, including through gatherings or rallies. This must be done in a civilized manner. As soon as there is violence or a violation of the law, there will, of course, be a response from the relevant authorities,” Kaladze stated.
When asked by journalists whether he intends to listen to the people’s position, Kakha Kaladze responded that freedom of expression must not exceed the boundaries of the law.
“We have a free country; we are an independent state, and in this free country, every person has the opportunity for expression and freedom. Any individual or group can express their stance on various issues, but the key is that all of this must be within the framework of the law,” Kaladze stated.
