The ongoing investigation into the Chorchana episode at Georgia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has taken another step forward. Ivane Machavariani, a former Minister of Finance of Georgia, has been summoned for questioning on July 4.

As reported earlier, several high-ranking officials have already been questioned by the Prosecutor’s Office in connection with this case. These include Vakhtang Gomelauri, former Head of the State Security Service; Aleksandre Tabatadze, former Deputy Head of the State Security Service; Kakhaber Kakhishvili, former Head of the Government Administration; Maia Tskitishvili, former Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure; Giorgi Khojevanishvili, former Governor of Shida Kartli; and Vazha Lomidze, head of the administrative unit of Tsagvli. Additionally, residents from the villages of Chorchana and Tsagvli have also been questioned.

**Background on Investigation**

The Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation under various articles of Georgia’s Criminal Code, including charges related to sabotage, attempted sabotage, assisting in hostile activities, and mobilizing financial resources for actions against Georgia’s constitutional order. The investigation will examine, among other things, the actions taken by former Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia on August 24, 2019, near the occupation line by the village of Chorchana.

**Parallel Investigation in Parliament**

The Prosecutor’s Office also noted that the suspicious circumstances related to the Chorchana outpost are being examined within the framework of a temporary investigative commission at the Georgian Parliament. Former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has already appeared before this commission to provide explanations.
