**Italy Seizes Soya Shipment from Serbia**
Italy has issued a warning about soja protein from Serbia due to high levels of a toxic substance called Aflatoxin. They also seized a shipment at the border.
The European Commission’s food safety system, RASFF, reported that the shipment exceeded safe limits for Aflatoxin B1 and Total Aflatoxins in Soja Protein. The Italian authorities considered this a serious risk to consumers.
This is not the first warning about soya products from Serbia. Other countries such as Latvia, Croatia, Poland, Denmark, and Spain have also issued warnings about soya products from Serbia due to high levels of toxins.
These warnings were:
* Aflatoxins in soy protein from Serbia on January 30 (Latvia)
* Mycotoxins in soybean flour from Serbia on January 24 (Croatia)
* Aflatoxin B1 and total aflatoxins in soy flour from Serbia on January 22 (Poland)
* Aflatoxin in Soja Protein from Serbia on January 21 (Denmark)
* Aflatoxins in texturised soy protein from Serbia on January 16 (Spain)
