The representative of the International Republican Institute (IRI) monitoring mission reported that there was constant intimidation and pressure on civil servants. “Georgian Dream”, for example, controlled many local self government representatives. There was also an intimidation to not vote for the ruling political party or risk losing social assistance. Margareta Siderfeld, who was assessing the elections, said this at the briefing.
According to her, “Georgian Dream”, used state resources to boost its campaign.
“Constant intimidation and pressure on civil servants were clear. The “Georgian Dream”, which controlled many local self government representatives, also threatened to cut off social assistance if local residents did not vote for their ruling party. It was also intended to scare supporters of the opposition,” said Margareta Siderfeld.
