The violence seems insignificant to the Akhalaia family compared to the violence they perpetrated in Gldani prison, where they directly tortured prisoners, stated Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to a statement by former Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia, who claimed that October 4 was a peaceful civil uprising comparable in significance to the events of April 9.
According to the Prime Minister, “such a statement from a person with the moral character of Bacho Akhalaia is not surprising.”
“As for their statements claiming there was no violence, I mean the Akhalaia family, it seems this violence is nothing to them compared to the violence they carried out in Gldani prison. For them, this violence is insignificant compared to what they did in prison, where they tortured prisoners in the direct sense of the word. We are not surprised by such statements from people with such morals. The rest, of course, will be determined by the investigation, including details related to foreign connections. I don’t want to get ahead of events, but it is important that every detail be investigated,” the Prime Minister said.
The head of government did not rule out that the number of individuals detained in connection with the October 4 rally could increase.
“It is likely to increase, given that we warned everyone about our identification capabilities. We warned everyone that we have even more resources to identify perpetrators than before. Consequently, every perpetrator who is identified will be held accountable. Therefore, it is logical to expect an increase in the number. The state cannot simply overlook such a scale of violence against the state and its institutions. Of course, a response is fundamentally important to safeguard the state from such attempts in the future, and we will, of course, see this through to the end,” the Prime Minister stated.
