“We are ready to fulfill absolutely every reasonable demand of the European Union; they must justify that their demands are reasonable, and we will fulfill all of them,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to journalists.
According to the head of government, the document was prepared within the appropriate timeframe and has already been sent to the European Union.
“Regarding August 31 and our response to the European Union, the document has been prepared and sent to the EU. As for its publication, we don’t know yet; we’ll see what the procedures are. The document could be made public, but first and foremost, we were obliged to send it to the European Union, and we did so within the appropriate timeframe. We are waiting for the EU’s response. We are ready to fulfill absolutely every reasonable demand; they must justify that their demands are reasonable, and we will fulfill all of them. There were certain demands that were reasonable, and we fulfilled them entirely. There were unreasonable demands, and they couldn’t justify why they were making those demands, including those related to the law on family values and the law on transparency. They cannot justify why opacity is better than transparency. They absolutely cannot justify why it is good for same-sex couples to adopt minors. Let them justify it, and we will fulfill that too. They demand the repeal of a law that states, for example, that same-sex couples cannot adopt minors—let them justify why they demand its repeal. If they provide justification, we will respond,” the Prime Minister stated.
According to him, everything requires prevention, as there are very serious trends in European countries, and the legalization of same-sex marriage was achieved by certain forces even in Greece.
“These are very serious trends, and we must act preventively against all of this; it is a serious problem. This is reflected in statistics and the situation in various countries. We must preemptively oppose such developments and future demands. That is exactly what this law was aimed at. The same applies to the law on transparency. No one in this country can justify that opacity is better than transparency. It is simply impossible to justify this. Let them try, but so far, no one has managed to justify it.
There are two issues on which we have a principled stance: the issue of family values and the rights of minors, and the issue of transparency. Everything else is less principled for us, and we are ready for any kind of discussion. Regarding these two laws, we also say: let them justify what they don’t like and why. But they don’t talk to us about anything; they want to twist our arms and force us using Soviet methods, which is absolutely wrong. Let them talk to us about everything, justify it, convince us. But when they don’t even talk to you and try to twist your arm, that is not a European approach—it is a Soviet approach,” the Prime Minister stated.
