There was a very clear discussion on all topics at the UN! All national challenges were clearly presented to international partners – I would like to thank the President for a very dignified speech at the UN, – Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told the media.
According to Kobakhidze, all the key national interests of the country were properly presented in Mikheil Kavelashvili’s speech.
When asked by a journalist why the Georgian Dream has a problem with mentioning Russia and clearly talking about Russian aggression, Kobakhidze said that President Mikheil Kavelashvili spoke about all national challenges, including the occupation, from the UN rostrum.
“They [the National Movement] recognized the start of war by signing the Council of Europe resolution, when they supported the Tagliavini conclusion. They themselves recognized what they did – it was the start of war! As for the occupation, it was not the Saakashvili regime that carried out the occupation, but the Russian Federation. In fact, the result of their betrayal was the continuation that followed the start of the war.
When it comes to the occupation of Georgian territories and when we are talking about it, everything is absolutely clear. This occupation is not any excuse for the bloody regime that started the war – they are not directly related to each other. The factual situation is that the Russian Federation has occupied 20% of Georgia’s territories,” – said Irakli Kobakhidze.
Kobakhidze also responded to President Zelensky’s mention of Georgia at the UN General Assembly session.
“As for the speech of the President of Ukraine the other day, I do not want to make any comments here. You know very well how difficult the situation in Ukraine is, not only in terms of war and economy, but also in terms of democracy and human rights.
When the head of this country at such a time takes the time to talk about Georgia, this in itself says everything, but I do not want to enter into a polemic with him, because he is the head of a country at war. Accordingly, I do not think it is right to polemic with him,” – said Kobakhidze.
