The Georgian Ambassador to the U.S. was not summoned [to the State Department]; that was a lie, stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to information spread by Radio Liberty claiming that Tamar Taliashvili was summoned to the U.S. State Department, where “deep concern” was expressed regarding statements made by government representatives.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia’s Ambassador to the U.S., Tamar Taliashvili, did indeed have a meeting at the State Department, but it was not a “diplomatic procedure or diplomatic measure.”
“I’m telling you that she was not summoned. I have spoken with Ms. Tamar Taliashvili several times over these days, and she has had numerous meetings; she was not summoned even once. You know that summoning is a specific diplomatic procedure, a diplomatic measure. She was not summoned even once. She had many meetings, including with a representative of the State Department. As for the communication itself, that is closed information, and we cannot talk about it; it’s inappropriate. Closed conversations should remain closed.
In general, I will say that we discuss everything with our American colleagues in various formats, and the ambassador is working very actively. We speak frankly with each other about what we like and what we don’t like. There are always very frank conversations,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
