Georgia’s Prime Minister Urges U.S. Senator to Rethink Views
Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has spoken out against a U.S. senator who expressed disappointment with the country.
Senator Jim Risch, a Republican and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, recently said he was unhappy with Georgia’s progress. He wants the people of Georgia to take control and make their country a better democracy that looks towards the West.
Kobakhidze responded strongly to these comments. He said Risch had once been friends with the government of Mikheil Saakashvili, who was president of Georgia from 2004 to 2013. Kobakhidze accused Saakashvili’s regime of being violent and bloody.
Kobakhidze told Risch that he should reassess his views about Georgia if he is able to do so.
