According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, German Ambassador Peter Fischer requested the government administration to exempt him from the Law on Grants.
According to him, the meeting with Fischer in the government administration was held at the request of the German diplomat himself.
“Mr. Fischer was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before that, he himself requested a meeting with the government administration, where he requested exemption from the Law on Grants, but received an answer that the law will apply equally to all relevant entities, including the German Embassy,” Kobakhidze said.
For information, a law is in effect at the initiative of the Georgian Dream, according to which foreign donors are required to obtain consent from the government before disbursing funds to local organizations. According to the amendments to the Law on Grants, the issuance of a grant to a grant recipient requires the consent of the government or an authorized person/body designated by the government.
