“I want to thank all relevant EU member states for their support. Thanks to their support, sanctions against the Georgian people were not activated,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
As he noted, “I hope that in the future, the EU will reconsider its attitude toward the Georgian people and, accordingly, toward the government elected by the Georgian people.”
“You know there were attempts to impose sanctions. However, this decision was not made, and I want to thank all relevant EU member states for their support. Thanks to their support, sanctions against the Georgian people were not activated. This is very important. We hope that in the future, the EU will reconsider its attitude toward the Georgian people and, accordingly, the government elected by the Georgian people. I believe this is mutually important for both Georgia and the EU. Let’s see if it will be possible to align a pragmatic decision within the EU, which would be mutually beneficial for both Georgia and the EU.
Everyone knows that there is a very dire situation at the EU Embassy, almost tragic. They directly support attempts to organize a revolution in the country. This must change. We cannot fully blame the ambassador for this. We know that this is not his personal decision. There are such serious developments unfolding in European bureaucracy, and unfortunately, all this harms the EU’s interests. It is in the EU’s objective interest to deepen partnership and relations with Georgia, especially against the backdrop of the current geopolitical situation, which is heavily impacting the EU’s economic condition. In such conditions, deepening relations with Georgia would, of course, be very interesting for the EU, but you see they are moving in a different direction. Imagine a summit being held with participation from practically all countries in the region, including Central Asian and South Caucasian countries, and the only one not invited is Georgia. It seems Georgia is the most undemocratic. I speak about this ironically. Can you see how far European bureaucracy has gone? It’s a catastrophe – they can neither explain nor justify anything. This is a catastrophic situation created in European bureaucracy. The EU Embassy in Georgia and European bureaucracy as a whole cannot be reduced to the level of a single specific culprit,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
