According to Irakli Abesadze, the lawyer for detained “National Movement” leader Irakli Nadiradze, being prosecuted for attempting to overthrow the regime is an honor for the detained politician.
Regarding the charges, the lawyer believes, “This will be yet another political show offered by ‘Georgian Dream.’”
“I met with Irakli Nadiradze. His position is that when we have a Russian authoritarian regime in power, being prosecuted for attempting to overthrow it is an honor for him. First and foremost, he wants to express great gratitude to the active part of society, the hundreds of thousands of citizens who were on Rustaveli Avenue yesterday, and to the millions of people who support this process and oppose the usurped regime and power of ‘Georgian Dream.’ As for the charges—this is yet another political show offered by ‘Georgian Dream.’ Of course, I agree with Irakli, and it is laughable to talk about overthrowing a government that itself seized power through criminal means in the 2024 elections,” Abesadze stated.
When asked whether Irakli Nadiradze acknowledges the charges, the lawyer responded that they will formulate their legal position, but “there is no point in a legal fight against this authoritarian regime.”
“For him, it is an honor to be a prisoner of Ivanishvili’s regime. As for a legal fight, there is no rule of law for anyone in this country… We will formulate what our legal position will be, but there is no point in a legal fight against this authoritarian regime… I told you, he does not acknowledge the charges, he cannot acknowledge the charges. Yes, [his detention is an honor for him] because he is in this fight at the cost of his own freedom. Yes, this is an honor,” the lawyer noted.
Irakli Abesadze: For Irakli Nadiradze, it is an honor to be prosecuted for attempting to overthrow Ivanishvili’s regime, an honor to be a prisoner of this Russian authoritarian regime – he does not and cannot accept the charges
