New Rules for Insulting Politicians and Officials

If someone insults a politician or official, they could face serious consequences. The government has proposed new rules that will make this behavior punishable by law.

According to the new rules, insulting a politician or official will result in a fine of 1,500-4,000 GEL (around $375-$1,000 USD) or up to 45 days in jail. If someone has already been punished for a similar offense, they could face an even larger fine (2,500-6,000 GEL) or up to 5 days in jail.

The new rules also include harsher penalties for other behaviors like disrupting public gatherings and resisting police officers. In some cases, these actions could result in fines of up to 10,000 GEL or up to 60 days in jail.

The government plans to pass these new rules quickly.
