**Drone Attacks Intensify**
Russia has launched a total of 165 drones overnight, including Iranian-designed Shahed-type drones. While air defenses managed to shoot down 69 drones, 80 others vanished from radar screens, likely used as decoys to overwhelm Ukrainian defenses. The assault was met with electronic warfare units, aviation, anti-aircraft missile systems, and mobile fire groups.
**Regional Breakdown of Attacks**
* In Kyiv, 11 people were injured, including two children, while the Dream Town shopping mall, at least seven cars, and a high-rise caught fire due to strikes.
* Donetsk Oblast saw Russian forces kill two residents in Komar and one in Myrnohrad, with two others injured. Two other localities came under attack.
* Kupiansk in Kharkiv Oblast suffered significant losses, with a man killed and four women injured after Russian troops hit residential areas and critical infrastructure.
* Nine people were injured in Kherson Oblast as Russian forces targeted residential areas and critical infrastructure, damaging two apartment buildings, nine houses, and other essential infrastructure.
* Dnipropetrovsk Oblast saw two police officers injured during a drone attack, with three businesses, two apartment buildings, and several houses damaged.
**President Zelensky Speaks Out**
In response to these attacks, President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his outrage, saying, “The Russians are calling for a ceasefire on May 9 while striking Ukraine every single day. This is top-level cynicism.” He emphasized that a real ceasefire is necessary and that Ukraine is ready for silence to begin on any day — but for no less than a month, to bring the war to an end.
**Escalating Situation**
The attacks come amid Moscow’s continued rejection of a complete ceasefire agreement and follow an escalation of strikes targeting civilian areas across Ukraine. The situation remains dire, with civilians bearing the brunt of these military actions.
