**Russian Attacks on Ukraine Leave 3 Dead, 37 Injured**
June 12 marked a devastating day for civilians in Ukraine as Russian attacks resulted in the loss of at least three lives and injured 37 people across various regions. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched an impressive 63 drones, including Shaheds and other unmanned aerial systems, from multiple directions.
The majority of these drone attacks were intercepted by Ukraine’s air defense system, which successfully shot down 28 drones. However, 21 others were either brought down by electronic warfare or disappeared from radar screens. The intensity of the attacks was high, with residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure sites being targeted in several regions.
**Kharkiv Oblast Hit Hard**
In Kharkiv Oblast, 16 people, including four children, were injured in attacks on the city of Kharkiv and surrounding communities. Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that various types of drones, missiles, and glide bombs damaged residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure sites.
**Donetsk, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson Oblasts Also Affected**
In Donetsk Oblast, two civilians were killed and six others injured in Russian strikes on Raiske and Toretsk. One person was injured when a Russian first-person-view (FPV) drone struck his car in the Sumy district of Sumy Oblast.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast saw two people injured during a wave of nearly 500 attacks on 16 towns and villages. Russian forces reportedly used drones, air strikes, artillery, and multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) to target civilian areas.
In Kherson Oblast, 12 people, including one child, were injured, and one person in the village of Sadove was killed in an artillery strike. Dozens of towns and villages were attacked, damaging residential buildings, infrastructure, and a national park.
**Ukraine’s Air Defense System Proved Effective**
While the Russian attacks were intense, Ukraine’s air defense system proved to be effective, intercepting many drones and preventing further damage. The Ukrainian government will likely continue to focus on strengthening its air defense capabilities to counter future Russian aggression.
