**Photographer Serves on Front Line, Capturing Reality of War**
Oleg Petrasiuk is a 33-year-old photographer who has been taking photos for over 13 years. He started out as a side gig to earn money while in college, but it eventually became his life’s work.
In 2009, when Petrasiuk began taking photos, he never imagined that one day he would be serving on the front line of Ukraine’s war against Russia. However, after Russia launched its all-out invasion of Ukraine, Petrasiuk was drafted into the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Despite being in a military role, he continued to take photos.
**A Photographer’s Life**
Petrasiuk now serves as part of the press service of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade, which is holding ground in Chasiv Yar, Donetsk Oblast. He has previously worked for the European Pressphoto Agency, covering Ukraine’s war from a different perspective. As a military photographer, Petrasiuk regularly captures the reality of Russia’s invasion.
**A Photographer’s Words**
When asked why he chose to stay at the front line and continue taking photos, Petrasiuk said: “The front line is exactly where I should be, next to them.” He was referring to his fellow soldiers from the 24th Brigade who have been fighting for over two years. His words reflect a deep sense of loyalty and commitment to serving alongside Ukraine’s brave soldiers.
