**Georgia’s Opposition Fails to Unite, Giving Advantage to Ruling Party**

In the run-up to local self-government elections in Georgia, opposition parties have been unable to put aside their differences and work together. According to sociologist Iago Kachkachishvili, this division is a major factor in the ruling party’s “Georgian Dream” staying in power.

“It’s like a project for ‘Georgian Dream’,” Kachkachishvili said on a recent TV program. “The opposition can’t mobilize enough to make a significant impact.” He noted that voter support for the government is lowest in Tbilisi, where it stands at around 25%. This presents an opportunity for the opposition to win control of the city.

However, Kachkachishvili pointed out that two opposition parties, Giorgi Gakharia’s party and “Lelo – Strong Georgia”, face a tough challenge. They need to convince opposition-minded voters not to boycott the elections and also persuade voters from other opposition parties to participate. This is an extremely difficult task, Kachkachishvili said.

**Ruling Party’s Rating Takes a Hit**

Kachkachishvili also highlighted that the official rating of “Georgian Dream” has decreased to 35%, which is worse than their performance in October elections. However, he noted that this data may be falsified and actual ratings might be higher. According to exit polls, “Georgian Dream’s” rating was around 42% last month.

“This shows that the ruling party’s popularity is declining,” Kachkachishvili said. The fact that opposition parties are still struggling to unite gives hope for a better future in Georgia, where people have been demanding more accountability and transparency from their leaders.
