In a bid to counter the growing threat of unjammable First-Person View (FPV) drones, the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Center and NATO’s Allied Command Transformation are joining forces for an innovation challenge. The event aims to find effective solutions to detect and neutralize these high-tech drones that use fiber optic cables to transmit control signals.
**The Challenge**
Unlike traditional radio-controlled drones, FPV drones using fiber optic cables are immune to jamming and interception. This makes them highly effective in environments saturated with electronic warfare, where radio signals are routinely disrupted. These drones represent one of the most pressing threats to Ukraine’s Defense Forces and NATO allies, which is why this challenge is crucial.
**Participation and Requirements**
Defense companies from NATO countries and Ukraine are invited to participate in the competition. The solutions proposed must meet several key requirements, including a detection range of at least 500 meters, functionality in day/night and adverse weather conditions, a total system weight under 100 kg, and a cost not exceeding $100,000.
