**EU Told to Stop Ignoring Abuse of Journalists in Serbia**
A university professor and leader of the Independent Association of Vojvodina Journalists (NDNV) spoke out against the government’s treatment of journalists in Serbia. Dinko Gruhonjic called on European Union officials to take action.
Gruhonjic made his comments at a news conference in Brussels, organized by the Council of Europe. He said that independent journalists in Serbia are fighting for European values, such as freedom of speech and reporting.
The professor urged EU officials to stop ignoring the government’s abuse of power against journalists in Serbia. “We urge them to immediately cease such harmful practice,” he said.
**Protests Against Regime**
Gruhonjic spoke about protests that have been happening in Serbia for months. Students, civil groups, and others are demanding justice for 15 people who died in a tragedy last year when a canopy at a train station collapsed.
The regime sees independent journalists as one of its biggest enemies, Gruhonjic said. Almost all institutions in Serbia are controlled by the government, he added.
