According to Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of “Strong Georgia,” in 2023, the state purchased 120 ambulances, but the majority of them “stand idle and are rusting.”
As Gegelia noted, the ambulances do not meet standards, which prevents their use.
“For two years, the state has paid 29 million from your pockets to purchase these ambulances, which stand idle and rust here. The ‘Georgian Dream’ incompetence and lack of expertise failed to properly adapt them and put them into service for the healthcare of you and your families. Over 120 ambulances were purchased, but most of them stand here and rust. This is an expression of ‘Georgian Dream’ incompetence, lack of ability, and a total corrupt quagmire that has dragged us down for years, resulting in millions from your pockets, your children’s pockets, and our elderly society’s pockets being squandered for non-targeted purposes and used to fund ‘Georgian Dream’ idiocy. Mr. Kutibashvili, who was the authorized person for this purchase, was quickly reassigned to head the municipal laboratory, another cozy position, and no one has held him accountable for this wasteful expenditure. There is no investigation, no case regarding where the 29 million from your pockets went, or why dozens of ambulances are not serving to save your health and improve your well-being.
‘Georgian Dream’ corruption must end because it is an anti-Georgian, anti-human, and anti-social phenomenon that comes at the expense of you, your families, and our healthcare system. We must immediately reclaim our Georgian state, this city, every major city, and restore common sense, transparency, and human-centered policies to our cities and our Georgian state,” Gegelia stated.
According to Vato Surguladze, another leader of “Strong Georgia,” “these ambulances have been standing here for two years, at a time when the availability of ambulances is a real problem in Georgia.”
“Why are these ambulances standing here? Because a purchase was made where a significant amount of money was spent, and, as it turned out, these ambulances are not in proper condition and require modifications. They started the modifications, then realized that these ambulances are very costly and consume a large amount of fuel. They are also not suitable for Tbilisi or the general situation in Georgia. What’s happening is that the system is being managed by unprofessional people. An ambulance service is not just a vehicle, a phone, and a doctor—it’s a complex system that requires expertise. When the ambulance service is managed by people who have no understanding of the issue, when narcology is managed by a gynecologist instead of a psychiatrist-narcologist, this is Georgia’s problem. Look, we need ambulances, the vehicles have been purchased, but they haven’t been used for two years,” Surguladze stated.
