**Georgian Dream’s Legitimacy in Question: Strong Georgia Demands Change**
The Georgian government, led by the Georgian Dream party, has come under fire for its handling of relations with the European Union. Grigol Gegelia, Foreign Secretary of Lelo – Strong Georgia, recently expressed his concerns about the current state of affairs during a briefing.
According to Gegelia, the EU’s recent statements that new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners are necessary for normalization of relations between the EU and Georgia suggest that the Georgian Dream has lost its legitimacy. “There are no other steps or measures that will legitimize the self-proclaimed regime serving Russians,” Gegelia emphasized.
**EU Spokesperson’s Comments Spark Controversy**
Gegelia also highlighted a recent statement from an EU spokesperson, which labeled the Georgian government as one that uses “Russian-style conspiracy theories.” This, he claimed, is a clear indication of the deepening ties between the Georgian Dream and Russia. Gegelia accused the party of abandoning its promise to lead Georgia towards European integration and instead engaging in a “four-legged march towards Russia.”
**Undermining National Aspirations**
The Strong Georgia leader criticized the Georgian government for spending millions on anti-European disinformation campaigns, thereby undermining the national and European aspirations of the Georgian people. He also accused the party of sabotaging the interests of the Georgian population through its actions.
**Support for EU Ambassador**
Gegelia expressed his support and solidarity with EU Ambassador Mr. Herczyński, who has faced recent attacks. “We would like to express our unconditional support and solidarity with Mr. Herczyński, who plays an exceptionally important role in lobbying for the European and national interests of the Georgian people,” Gegelia stated.
**Strong Georgia Demands Change**
In light of these developments, Strong Georgia continues to demand new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners as necessary steps towards normalizing relations between the EU and Georgia. As Gegelia emphasized, “There are no other steps or measures that will legitimize the self-proclaimed regime serving Russians.”
