European Parliament to Vote on Sanctions Against Georgia
The European Parliament will vote on a draft resolution about the situation in Georgia on February 13. The leader of Strategy Builder, Giorgi Vashadze, has responded to this news.
Giorgi Vashadze says that the main point of this resolution is that sanctions should be decided at the national level, not by the European Union as a whole. This means that countries like Hungary will no longer have a veto over sanctions against other countries.
Vashadze believes that this new approach is significant and will make Georgian Dream, the ruling party in Georgia, think carefully about its actions. He also says that the deadline for calling new elections and releasing political prisoners is until April. If these things are not done by then, Vashadze warns that things will get worse for Georgian Dream.
The resolution also sets out what steps the European Union will take if Georgian Dream does not improve the situation in Georgia.
