Tbilisi residents have rightfully dubbed the Vake Park fountain the “killer fountain” due to the irresponsibility and corruption of [Kakha Kaladze], as well as the irresponsible governance of the Tbilisi City Hall, which led to the death of a teenager. This fountain cannot become a symbol of peace, stated Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Tbilisi City Council and the political council of the “Gakharia for Georgia” party, during a briefing held in Vake Park.
With this, he responded to a video posted on social media by “Georgian Dream,” which addresses war and peace. As Giorgi Sharashidze noted, “Georgian Dream” is unable to offer the public any positive agenda and has once again resorted to a tried-and-true tactic, intimidating Georgian citizens with the fabricated threat of war.
“‘Georgian Dream’ continues its psychological violence against the citizens of Georgia. When they are unable to offer the public any positive agenda, they once again resort to their usual method and intimidate with the fabricated threat of war. It is also outrageous that they present this illusory peace as their own achievement and portray the fountain, which Tbilisi residents have rightfully called the ‘killer fountain,’ as a symbol of peace.
I want to remind Kaladze that Tbilisi residents have named this fountain the ‘killer fountain’ due to his irresponsibility, corruption, and the irresponsible governance of Tbilisi City Hall, which resulted in the loss of a teenager’s life. This fountain cannot become a symbol of peace.
The malfunctioning municipal services and Kaladze’s corrupt governance led to the death of a teenager at this very place. We have seen numerous instances where people have fallen victim to the malfunctioning of municipal services: the case in Rike Park, the death of a young athlete in a cable car incident in Tsqneti, and the tragedy at Station Square. Kaladze and his administration cannot escape responsibility for these. The result of corrupt governance is that people suffer physical harm and, often, lose their lives.
A few days after this tragedy, Kaladze stated that if he is guilty of any crime, he is ready to answer before a court. He made this statement after everything had been arranged with the prosecutor’s office and the court.
I want to promise and remind him that the time will surely come in Georgia when a just court will decide who the person or people directly responsible for the Vake Park tragedy are. Immediately remove the fountain footage from the propaganda video,” Sharashidze stated.
