Giorgi Rukhadze : It’s great that high-level visits have resumed, but I don’t think Senator Daines’ visit is an alternative to Ivanishvili’s meeting with the Ambassador, which was intended to deliver Rubio’s message to government

**US Senator Visits Georgia, but Some Question its Significance**

It’s been a while since high-level visits have resumed in Georgia, and the latest one is from US Senator Steve Daines. But some experts are skeptical about the visit’s main purpose and whether it will make a significant difference.

Giorgi Rukhadze, founder of the Strategic Analysis Center, thinks that Senator Daines’ visit might not be as important as another recent meeting between Bidzina Ivanishvili, the head of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, and the US ambassador. According to Rukhadze, Ivanishvili’s meeting with the ambassador was meant to deliver a message from Rubio, a Republican senator, to the Georgian government.

Rukhadze notes that Senator Daines has no previous ties to Georgia, making it hard to predict the visit’s main purpose. He also thinks that the visit might not be enough to halt the adoption of the “MEGOBARI Act”, which is likely to be passed by the US Congress soon.

**”Georgian Dream”‘s Conflict with Everyone**

Rukhadze comments on the conflict between “Georgian Dream” and various countries, including the US. He notes that Ivanishvili’s refusal to meet the ambassador was a significant event, as it showed that his personal financial issues are more important to him than the country’s future.

Regarding the visit of Senator Daines, Rukhadze says that it’s unlikely to make a significant difference in Georgian-American relations. Instead, he thinks that other countries will follow the lead of France and Poland, which have issued travel warnings to Georgia due to recent cases of entry denials for those who have participated in protests.

**The Future of Georgian-American Relations**

Rukhadze believes that the adoption of the “MEGOBARI Act” is likely without obstacles. He notes that the act has already been passed by the House of Representatives and approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, making it difficult to predict changes.

If adopted, Rukhadze thinks that “Georgian Dream” will find itself in a situation similar to those of Maduro in Venezuela or Lukashenko in Belarus. He also believes that other countries will follow the lead of France and Poland in issuing travel warnings to Georgia.
