The conversation was mainly about why I consider the street protests that took place in November and December to be good and important, – Giorgi Mshvenieradze, the head of the organization Guardians of Democracy, told the media after being questioned by a magistrate judge in the so-called sabotage case.
According to Mshvenieradze, questions were also asked about who was the organizer of the 2024 protest.
“The Prosecutor’s Office representatives either had not read the organization’s charter or were interested in how well I knew the charter of the organization. I think I passed this test well.
They had questions about some of my Facebook posts. I am proud that I wrote these posts and I will write many more in the future. The conversation was mainly about, for example, why I think the street protests held in November and December are good and important. The question was raised as to who was the organizer of the 2024 protest. I named the organizer as Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, who made a statement on November 28 and mobilized and ensured that people took to the streets. There were also some questions related to procurement documents. I shared the information I had,” said Giorgi Mshvenieradze.
For information, on August 27, the Prosecutor’s Office released information stating that the Tbilisi City Court had granted the Prosecutor’s Office’s motion to seize the bank accounts of the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy, Institute for Development of Freedom of Information, Guardians of Democracy, Georgian Democratic Initiative, Sapari, and Social Justice Center.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the case concerns the investigation ongoing in the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia into sabotage, attempted sabotage under aggravating circumstances, assistance to a foreign organization or an organization under foreign control in hostile activities, and mobilization of funds for activities directed against the constitutional order and foundations of national security of Georgia.
Later, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia summoned the heads of individual non-governmental organizations for questioning as witnesses. As stated in the statement released by the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the case concerns the seizure of bank accounts of 12 legal entities – foundations and non-governmental organizations, thereby restricting further inappropriate disposal of funds.
