Georgian Party Leader Supports Students in Protest
Giorgi Gakharia, the leader of the “Gakharia for Georgia” party, has spoken out in support of students who were suspended from their university. The reason for their suspension is that they took part in protests.
In a social media post, Gakharia said: “Young people and students have always been symbols of the fight for freedom.” He added that those who rule the country often target young people and students, which he called the “dignity” of the ruling party’s policies.
Gakharia also made reference to a quote about the past losing out in conflicts with the future. He was saying that the government’s actions would ultimately be unsuccessful.
The Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film State University stated that their rector had not yet suspended any students’ status, but that those involved could appeal this decision if they wanted to.
