The head of the Center for Economic Policy Research, Gigi Gigiaze, has called for the publication of a congratulatory letter allegedly sent by US President Donald Trump to Mikheil Kavelashvili on Georgia’s Independence Day. The letter, which was supposedly sent to mark this significant occasion, has sparked debate over its authenticity.
Gigiaze expressed his concerns on PalitraNews’ “Resume” program, stating that if the Georgian Dream party truly had an authentic version of the letter, they would have made it public by now. He pointed out that the only available text is a published version, which lacks official titles, greetings, and a signature – essential features of any official document.

Gigiaze questioned why the publication of this text was delayed and wondered if an official congratulatory document even exists. He suggested that the Georgian Dream party might not have access to such a document, given their own failure to publish it in a timely manner. The expert emphasized that the public deserves to see the original text in English, especially considering its significance as a gesture from the US President.
**Refusal to Negotiate and Deepening Political Crisis**
Gigiaze also commented on the statement released by the US Embassy regarding Bidzina Ivanishvili’s refusal to meet with US Ambassador Robin Dunnigan. He viewed this as another sign of the deepening political crisis in Georgia, which is characterized by a reluctance to engage in dialogue with Western countries.
According to Gigiaze, Ivanishvili’s refusal to negotiate sends a specific message and highlights the widening gap between the government and the international community. The expert warned that Georgia is moving away from civilization and entering uncharted territory, marked by increasing authoritarianism and restrictions on opposition parties.
