“The detention of a political leader is not new to us; all four of the ‘Coalition for Change’ leaders are already in prison. Ivanishvili must know that no matter who he detains, the fight will not stop! Detain one? The second will raise the flag of struggle. Detain the second? The third will raise the flag!” stated Giga Lemonjava, a representative of the “Coalition for Change,” during a briefing regarding the detention of one of the coalition’s leaders, Elene Khoshtaria.
According to Lemonjava, Elene Khoshtaria was detained on “fabricated, trumped-up, unjust” charges.
“A few minutes ago, Elene Khoshtaria, a leader of the ‘Coalition for Change,’ was detained on fabricated, trumped-up, unjust charges. She was detained because she is a significant figure in the collective public resistance, in the fight against the Russification of this country, against Bidzina Ivanishvili’s evil, Russian, oppressive regime. It’s not worth delving into the legal details because the charge is so absurd and foolish—writing with a marker on the election banner of the bandit Kaladze. Behind us is our office, which has numerous inscriptions on it, some of which cannot be erased at all. This is part of our daily life. Not a single one of these people has been detained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Yet today, they detained one of the prominent political leaders, Elene Khoshtaria.
The detention of a political leader is not new to us. All four political leaders of the ‘Coalition for Change’ are already in prison. Bidzina Ivanishvili must know that no matter who he detains, the fight will not stop. Detain one? The second will raise the flag of struggle. Detain the second? The third will raise the flag. This is not a party struggle. This is the collective struggle of the Georgian people against the Russification of Georgia. This struggle has only one outcome – the collapse of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the overthrow and end of his regime, and the victory of the Georgian people. They can do whatever they want, but we will do everything to bring this regime to an end as quickly as possible. No detentions can stop this,” stated Giga Lemonjava.
The reason for the detention is presumably the damage to the banner of “Georgian Dream’s” mayoral candidate, Kakha Kaladze, for which the Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a case.
As a reminder, on September 14, Elene Khoshtaria wrote “Russian Dream” on Kakha Kaladze’s election banner near his campaign headquarters. She shared the corresponding video on social media herself and stated that in this way, she expresses solidarity with Megi Diasamidze, who was detained a few days ago for damaging Kakha Kaladze’s election banner.
