“As in Megi’s case, so in Elene’s case, of course, this is madness, nonsense; it defies any legal explanation or justification,” stated Giga Lemonjava, one of the representatives of the “Coalition for Change,” regarding the detention of the same coalition’s leader, Elene Khoshtaria.
According to Lemonjava, Elene Khoshtaria’s detention “will not scare anyone or make them retreat.”
“Elene Khoshtaria has been detained under the Criminal Code article that the Ministry of Internal Affairs wrote on its ‘Facebook’ page yesterday. [Detained] under Article 187, which pertains to damaging someone else’s property causing significant harm. As in Megi’s case, so in Elene’s case, of course, this is madness, nonsense. It defies any legal explanation or justification. This is simply Kaladze’s hysteria; he staged a provocation—he set up a hub of violence in the city center, from which people come out and beat women. That is not any election headquarters. Elene Khoshtaria was detained criminally for writing on this headquarters with a marker. This is the reality.
I have no idea what logic ‘Georgian Dream’ is employing in this case, but I know our logic. Our logic is as follows: any such arrogance that occasionally occurs from ‘Georgian Dream,’ this type of violence, not only scares people but, on the contrary, fills them with more solidarity, more courage, more unity. If anyone thinks that detaining Elene on some absurd charges will scare someone, make them retreat, and allow Kaladze to continue his violence and operations from the hub, naturally, they are mistaken.
This office should be completely shut down because it is a provocation. Opening this so-called election headquarters reminds me of Kaladze wanting to light a Christmas tree on Rustaveli. For reference, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” Elene Khoshtaria, has been detained. Law enforcement officers took Khoshtaria from her home.
The reason for the detention is presumably the damage to the banner of “Georgian Dream’s” mayoral candidate, Kakha Kaladze, for which the Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a case.
Specifically, the investigation was initiated under Article 187 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to damaging or destroying property.
As a reminder, on September 14, Elene Khoshtaria wrote “Russian Dream” on Kakha Kaladze’s election banner near his campaign headquarters. She herself shared the corresponding video on social media and stated that in this way, she expresses solidarity with Megi Diasamidze, who was detained a few days ago for damaging Kakha Kaladze’s election banner.
