“I see no need for a plebiscite; let’s call the elections a plebiscite. What our opponents say in this case is irrelevant because they do not express what aligns with Georgia’s national interests. If they do, it’s only to deceive the public, but the people are no longer fooled and they fail to realize this,” said Gia Volski, First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, in response to the initiative by “United Neutral Georgia” to hold a plebiscite on European integration in parallel with local elections.
According to Gia Volski, the hallmark of “Georgian Dream” is maintaining stability, advancing the European integration process, and preserving identity, which is why the vast majority of society supports them during elections. Otherwise, the collective “National Movement” would be in power, with its approach of “European integration at all costs.”
“When ‘Georgian Dream’ participates in elections, the vast majority of society supports us because European integration is important to them, and at the same time, preserving the cultural heritage and identity that characterizes us is a symbol of our political team. This is our signature—maintaining stability, advancing European integration, and preserving identity. When you vote for and support ‘Georgian Dream,’ it means you support these principles. If it weren’t for the public’s support for these principles, ‘Georgian Dream’ would not be in power. Instead, the collective ‘National Movement’ would be, pursuing a different direction—European integration at all costs. They have dark intentions—destabilization and involvement in processes that would destroy Georgia. Therefore, our position and approach to these issues are clear and closer to the vast majority of society, which is why we have been winning elections for years. I see no need for a plebiscite; let’s call the elections a plebiscite.
The people are not a flock of sheep to be sold something unacceptable to them. Society expresses its position by voting during elections for the party that is honest, sincere, transparent, and hides nothing. The narrative from their side that they are ‘teaching the people’ or ‘want to deceive the people and throw dust in their eyes’ does not resonate with Georgian society.
What our opponents say in this case is irrelevant because they do not express what aligns with Georgia’s national interests. If they do, it’s only to deceive the public, but the people are no longer fooled, and they fail to realize this. Therefore, I not only disagree with our opponents’ stance but consider it harmful,” stated Gia Volski.
