“A competition is underway to determine who is the bigger extremist: Gedi Popkhadze, Elene Khoshtaria, or Levan Khabeishvili. Gedi and Levan have taken the lead in this race, and now [Elene] wants to catch up,” stated Gia Volski, the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, to journalists, commenting on the inscription “Russian Dream” made by Elene Khoshtaria, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” on the election banner of the ruling party’s Tbilisi mayoral candidate, incumbent Mayor Kakha Kaladze.
According to Volski, paying bail will not be difficult for Elene Khoshtaria.
“A competition is underway to determine who is the bigger extremist: Gedi Popkhadze, Elene Khoshtaria, or Levan Khabeishvili. Gedi and Levan have taken the lead in this race, and now [Elene] wants to catch up. Secondly, it won’t be difficult for her to pay bail, since if anyone is financing and supporting someone, it is Russia and Khoshtaria’s family. Enormous sums of money come in monthly. This raises certain suspicions about her, and I believe these suspicions exist abroad as well, particularly among the community that opposes us, to prove that she receives funds. How can someone harm the country in such a situation? Only one conclusion can be drawn. First, the global reality is such that involving Georgia in this confrontation is strategically important for a specific cold-blooded policy that is not being formed here. Second, Russia, of course, politically benefits when a group of people opposes the Georgian government precisely because it supposedly isn’t moving toward the EU and is instead gravitating toward Russia’s orbit. Both cases can be linked, and one conclusion can be made – the country is being fought against with quite serious methods, but it’s not just one fighter; many parties are interested in destabilizing Georgia,” Volski stated.
The reason for the detention is the damage to the banner of “Georgian Dream’s” mayoral candidate, Kakha Kaladze, for which the Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a case.
For reference, on September 14, Elene Khoshtaria wrote “Russian Dream” on Kakha Kaladze’s election banner near his campaign headquarters. She shared the corresponding video on social media herself and stated that in this way, she expresses solidarity with Megi Diasamidze, who was detained a few days ago for damaging Kakha Kaladze’s election banner.
