**Germany Boosts Military Aid to Ukraine with New Package of Defense Systems**
In a significant move, Germany has provided Ukraine with an updated package of military assistance, including advanced air defense systems and missiles. The announcement comes as Russia continues to escalate its attacks on Ukrainian cities, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.
According to the German government’s updated list released on April 17, the new shipment includes four additional IRIS-T systems and missiles for them, as well as missiles for Patriot air defense systems. This package also includes 66 more Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, additional Kinetic Defense Vehicles, and 38,000 more rounds of Gepard anti-aircraft ammunition.
Furthermore, Germany has partnered with Denmark and Norway to deliver three new Zuzana 2 wheeled howitzers. The package also includes artillery supplies, including 27,000 more rounds of 155 mm shells and 1,000 additional rounds of 122 mm ammunition. Drone support is also provided, with the addition of 70 more Vector reconnaissance drones, 150 additional HF-1 armed drones, and 10 more surface drones.
**Ukraine’s President Calls for Continued Defense**
In a statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the need for continued defense against Russia’s ongoing invasion. He noted that Ukraine has identified the captain of the oil embargo-breaking tanker FACCA, which is part of Russia’s “shadow fleet” of oil tankers.
Ukrainian intelligence has also reported on recent Russian attacks in various regions, including areas near the settlements of Udachne, Kotlyne, and Shevchenko. President Zelensky warned that new Russian attacks are possible ahead of Easter and after it, stressing the importance of continued defense efforts.
**Germany’s Commitment to Ukraine**
This latest package of military aid from Germany brings the total value of German support to Ukraine since 2022 to approximately €28 billion. This significant commitment underscores Germany’s resolve to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
In a related development, Presidential Office head Andriy Yermak, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov arrived in Paris on April 17 to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine with visiting US officials. This meeting highlights the importance of international cooperation in supporting Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself against Russian aggression.
**Russia Continues to Escalate Attacks**
Despite these developments, Russia continues to escalate its attacks on Ukrainian cities. On April 16, Russia launched 75 drones, including Shahed-type drones, two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and three S-300/400 anti-aircraft guided missiles. This aggressive behavior underscores the need for continued international support for Ukraine’s defense efforts.
As the situation remains fluid, it is clear that Ukraine will continue to require significant military aid to counter Russia’s ongoing aggression. Germany’s commitment to providing this aid is a crucial step towards supporting Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself against Russian aggression.
