**Protests in Serbia: A German Journalist’s View**
There is a lot of energy and movement among the people in Serbia right now. This has not been seen for a long time, according to German writer and journalist Michael Martens.
He thinks that the ongoing protests will not lead to the government being overthrown. President Aleksandar Vucic still has some support from the people.
Martens said that it’s not just about the people who are brought to rallies by buses and given food. He believes there is genuine support for the president among some Serbs.
The chances of a major change in the government, like those that happened before (in 1991), seem unlikely to him. The number of people supporting the president might be small, but it’s real.
When asked about the international factor, Martens said that most outsiders think the government is making mistakes, not the people who are protesting. This view sees the protests as a democratic right, rather than something wrong.
