**Georgian Dream Party Proposes New Laws**
The Georgian Dream (GD) party has introduced several legislative amendments and a draft law in parliament. These are expected to be discussed during the spring session.
**New Rights for CEC Members**
One of the proposed laws concerns the Central Election Commission (CEC). It would give current members of the CEC the right to carry firearms after they leave office, if they have served for four years without a break. However, this right would not apply to anyone who has been found guilty of violating electoral law by a court.
**Changes to Election Code**
The GD party also wants to change the election code in response to “practical challenges” identified after the October 2024 parliamentary elections. The changes include new rules for observers and journalists at polling stations, and higher fines for interfering with the work of election officials.
**State Compensation for CEC Members**
Another proposed law would give CEC members state compensation equal to one-third of their salary. Those who have served as CEC members for 25 years or more, or who are 65 or older, would qualify for this compensation.
**Changes to Party Funding**
The GD party also wants to change the way political parties receive funding from the state budget. This would start after the Georgian Parliament has gained full authority following a session, and would be distributed only after the Central Election Commission has announced the final election results.
