In a devastating turn of events, Russian attacks across Ukraine have resulted in the deaths of at least four civilians and injuries to over 40 people, including children. The regional authorities reported this tragic news on July 28.
**Drone Strikes Overwhelming Ukrainian Defenses**
Russian forces launched an unprecedented number of drones and missiles against Ukraine overnight. According to the Air Force, Russian forces fired 324 Shahed-type attack drones, four Kh-101 cruise missiles, and three Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles. The majority of these attacks targeted Starokostiantyniv in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, where an air base belonging to Ukraine’s 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade is located.
**Air Defenses Strained but Holding**
Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept 309 drones and two Kh-101 missiles, preventing further damage. However, two missiles and 15 drones did manage to hit three different locations, causing significant destruction. The Kinzhal missiles failed to reach their target, which was likely intended for a strategic military asset.
**Civilian Casualties in Kyiv**
A Russian drone struck an apartment building in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, injuring eight people, including a three-year-old child. Four of the victims were hospitalized with serious injuries.
**Regional Disasters Unfolding**
The situation was just as dire in other regions. In Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, three civilians were injured during Russian attacks. A 54-year-old man was injured and several buildings damaged on July 27. Overnight, a 49-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl were injured, and multiple buildings were damaged.
**Donetsk Oblast Suffers Human Losses**
In Donetsk Oblast, one person was killed and three others were injured in Illinivka. A civilian was also wounded in Kostiantynivka.
**Kherson Oblast and Sumy Oblast Hit Hard**
Russian attacks in Kherson Oblast left five people injured, with a multi-story residential building and 10 houses damaged. In Sumy Oblast, three people were killed and 20 others injured during Russian drone strikes.
**Evacuees Targeted**
In a horrific incident, a Russian drone targeting an evacuated bus near the Sumy Oblast village of Yunakivka killed three people and injured 19. One more civilian was injured in a separate drone attack against the Seredyna-Buda community.
