**Serbia’s Ex-Police Official Sentenced to Jail**
A high-ranking official in Serbia’s police force has been given a 16-month prison sentence. Dijana Hrkalovic was once the state secretary at the Interior Ministry.
She was accused of using her position to protect criminals and stop investigations. The court found her guilty of these crimes in three separate cases.
Hrkalovic’s job gave her access to sensitive information. Some media outlets claimed she used this power to order surveillance on important government officials, including her boss at the time, Nebojsa Stefanovic.
Another police official, Dejan Milenkovic, was also accused of these crimes. However, he was found not guilty. A third person, Milorad Susnjic, who used to be the police chief in Novi Sad, received a one-year prison sentence for his role in the same cases.
